Schooling Bannerfish

Heniochus diphreutes

Schooling Bannerfish is a reef-associated butterflyfish that often forms loose groups over coral slopes and outer reef drop-offs. It is one of the more schooling heniochus species, with a banner-like dorsal filament and a zebra-striped body.

Punkty identyfikacyjne

  • Tall, narrow white body with bold vertical black bands
  • Long white dorsal filament extending well above the fin
  • Yellow-tipped rear dorsal and anal fin edges with a bannerfish profile

Siedlisko

Clear tropical saltwater coral reefs, reef slopes, surge zones, and outer reef drop-offs; commonly seen schooling above or beside branching corals and along current-swept reef edges.

Notatki na temat przynęty

Not a typical sport or food fish, but in aquaria and observation it responds to tiny planktonic foods; anglers rarely target it. If accidentally hooked, small bits of shrimp, mysis, or other fine natural baits are the closest match to its feeding style.

Zachowanie

Feeds mainly on plankton and small drifting zooplankton in midwater, often schooling tightly and picking food from the water column rather than grazing coral. It is generally diurnal and may associate with currents and reef structure.

Ostrożność

No notable human consumption value; not commonly kept for food. In many areas reef fish collection may be regulated, and some populations are sensitive to handling and aquarium collection pressure.

Notatki wędkarskie

Best treated as a reef-viewing species rather than a target. Avoid heavy tackle and reef contact; if captured incidentally on light gear, unhook quickly and release it in the water to minimize stress and scale loss.
