Enneacanthus gloriosus
Blue-spotted Sunfish is a small, secretive centrarchid of quiet, heavily vegetated waters in the southeastern United States. It forages on tiny aquatic invertebrates and usually stays close to cover; reports outside its native range should be treated cautiously because occurrence records can include misidentifications or introductions.

Tiny live worms, bloodworms, small crickets, and insect larvae can work well; very small soft plastics, micro jigs, and flies tied to imitate midges or small aquatic insects are practical. Downsize everything and fish it near cover.

Secretive and cover-oriented, often hovering near plants or woody debris and picking off small insects, crustaceans, and other invertebrates. It is most active in calm, sheltered water and is not a hard-charging open-water feeder.

Handle carefully because small sunfish can have sharp spines on the dorsal and anal fins. Confirm local regulations before keeping fish, and avoid consuming if the waterbody has contamination advisories.
