Violet Soldierfish

Myripristis violacea

Violet Soldierfish is a nocturnal reef fish found in Indo-Pacific coral and rocky reefs, typically sheltering by day and feeding after dark. It is not a major angling target; most captures are incidental around reef structure.

Пункти ідентифікації

  • Deep-bodied red to violet fish with a large eye
  • Prominent spiny first dorsal fin and long second dorsal fin
  • Vivid violet or purplish body with pale-edged fins and a soldierfish profile

середовище проживання

Coral and rocky reefs, lagoon slopes, and drop-offs in clear tropical saltwater; adults shelter in caves, crevices, and under ledges by day, often below shallow reef flats and along outer reef faces at night.

Замітки про наживку

Small strip baits, shrimp, squid pieces, and tiny pilchard or sardine cut baits can take it incidentally; small glowing jigs or micro soft plastics near reef edges may also work at night.

Поведінка

Nocturnal planktivore that emerges after sunset to feed on zooplankton above the reef. During daylight it remains aggregated in shaded refuges and is commonly inactive and wary.

Обережно

Sharp reef habitat can cut line and skin; handle carefully around coral. As a small reef predator it is not usually targeted for consumption, and local reef-fish advisories or protected-area rules may apply.

Рибальські нотатки

Fish after dark around reef ledges, cave mouths, and steep drop-offs with light tackle and small hooks. Present baits just off the bottom or suspend them in the water column; use caution to avoid snagging on sharp coral.
