Redfin Bream

Monotaxis heterodon

Redfin bream (Monotaxis heterodon) is a reef-associated emperor of the Indo-Pacific, often found over clear coastal reefs and lagoon slopes. It feeds on benthic invertebrates and small reef organisms; angling details are limited, so local reef-fishing practices are the best guide.

Môi trường sống

Clear tropical and subtropical coastal waters over coral and rocky reefs, lagoon slopes, reef drop-offs, and adjacent sandy patches near structure; typically in shallow to moderate depths.

Small pieces of shrimp, squid, cut fish, marine worms, and other natural reef baits work best. Small jig heads and lightly weighted soft plastics can also take fish around reef edges.

Forages close to the bottom for crustaceans, mollusks, worms, and small reef prey. Usually cautious and structure-oriented, moving along reef edges and bottom contours.

Handle carefully around reef structure; sharp dorsal spines can puncture skin. As a reef fish, follow local size and bag limits, and be aware of possible ciguatera risk in some tropical locations.

Fish near reef slopes, bommies, and channel edges with light to medium tackle and natural presentations. Use enough weight to reach bottom without snagging, and set up quickly because reef fish often strike briefly and retreat into cover.
