Yellowstripe Goatfish

Mulloidichthys flavolineatus

Yellowstripe Goatfish is a tropical reef-associated fish with bright yellow longitudinal stripes and whisker-like chin barbels used to probe the bottom for prey. It is common on sandy reef flats and lagoons and is mainly of minor food-fish or bait value in some areas.

  • A pair of chin barbels is visible beneath the mouth
  • Body is slender and goatfish-like with a slightly forked tail and reddish-pink tint

Môi trường sống

Shallow tropical marine habitats, especially sandy bottoms, coral reef flats, seagrass edges, lagoons, and drop-offs near reefs; often forages over open sand beside structure.

Ghi chú mồi

Takes small pieces of shrimp, squid, clam, and marine worms on light tackle; tiny jigs and small baited hooks near bottom can work. Not usually a primary sport species, so fishing is often incidental rather than targeted.

Hành vi

Diurnal bottom-forager that uses its chin barbels to detect worms, छोटे crustaceans, and other invertebrates in sand. Often moves in small schools and may follow larger fish to pick up disturbed prey.

Thận trọng

As a reef-associated tropical fish, local consumption advisories may apply in some regions; check for ciguatera risk where it occurs. Handle carefully around sharp gill covers and fin spines.

Ghi chú câu cá

Use light line, small hooks, and a subtle bottom presentation over sand adjacent to reef structure. Let the bait rest on or just above the bottom; gentle lifts and short drifts are more effective than fast retrieves.
