Pennant Bannerfish
Heniochus chrysostomus
The Pennant Bannerfish (Heniochus chrysostomus) is a reef-associated butterflyfish of the Indo-Pacific, often seen singly or in pairs above coral drop-offs and outer reef slopes. It is more an aquarium/ornamental species than a true angling target.

识别要点
- Bold black diagonal facial band through the eye with a yellow/orange snout
- Long white pennant-like dorsal filament trailing from the front of the dorsal fin
- White body with two broad black vertical bands and a yellow caudal fin
栖息地
Steep coral reef slopes, outer reef faces, lagoons with rich coral growth, and current-swept drop-offs from shallow water to roughly 50 m.
饵料备注
Not a standard game fish. If accidentally hooked, it may take tiny zooplankton-sized offerings or very small bits on fine tackle; reef anglers should avoid targeting it.
行为
Diurnal planktivore that picks zooplankton from the water column and sometimes feeds near branching corals; typically swims in the open above reef structure and may form small groups.
注意事项
Reef fish regulations may protect local ornamental species; check local rules before retaining. Handle carefully to avoid damaging delicate fins, and avoid stressing the fish if released.
钓法备注
Rarely fished intentionally; it is best left unmolested. If encountered while reef fishing, light line and small hooks will increase the chance of a safe release, but minimizing handling is preferable.
