Decorated Sandgoby

Istigobius decoratus

The Decorated Sandgoby (Istigobius decoratus) is a small Indo-Pacific goby associated with sandy reef flats and lagoon bottoms. It is a bottom-dweller that uses camouflage and quick darting movements to feed on tiny invertebrates.

识别要点

  • Pale sandy body with orange-brown mottling and darker decorative spots/bars
  • Two dorsal fins with the first spiny dorsal noticeably separated from the soft second dorsal
  • Small goby shape with a blunt head and fused pelvic fins forming a suction disc

栖息地

Shallow tropical marine sand flats, lagoon bottoms, and sheltered reef slopes; often near scattered rubble, coral heads, or seagrass edges on clear coastal waters.

饵料备注

Tiny pieces of shrimp, marine worm, or squid work best; small unweighted or lightly weighted offerings are more effective than large baits. Very small soft plastics and micro-jigs can take curious fish.

行为

A benthic micro-predator that picks small crustaceans, worms, and other infauna from the substrate. It stays close to cover, freezes when approached, and darts back to the bottom when disturbed.

注意事项

Handle carefully; like most gobies it is delicate and not a significant food fish. Follow local reef-flat and marine protected area regulations if fishing in tropical coastal habitats.

钓法备注

Target shallow sand patches beside reef structure with light line and tiny hooks. Present baits on the bottom with minimal movement; sight-fishing in clear water can be effective at low tide or slack water.
