Yellowtail Snapper
Ocyurus chrysurus
Yellowtail Snapper is a reef-associated snapper of warm Atlantic waters, common from Florida and the Bahamas through the Caribbean and tropical western Atlantic. It is prized as a table fish and often school over hard bottom, reefs, and sand edges.

识别要点
- Bright yellow longitudinal stripe from snout to tail.
- Distinct yellow forked tail with yellow tips on fins.
- Slender snapper body with a more pointed snout and no dark shoulder spot.
栖息地
Lives over coral and rocky reefs, live-bottom ledges, patch reefs, grass-sand edges, and offshore wrecks in warm clear marine waters, usually from shallow flats and bays to deeper reef slopes.
饵料备注
Small live pilchards, sardines, shrimp, squid strips, and cut bait all work well. Small jigs, soft plastics, and tiny vertical or drift-presented flies can be effective when fish are keyed on baitfish.
行为
Forms schools, often holding off the bottom and over structure during the day; feeds on small fish, shrimp, crabs, squid, and plankton. It is more active at dawn, dusk, and at night, and often responds well to current and chum.
注意事项
Watch for sharp gill plates and spines. In some areas larger reef fish can carry ciguatera risk, so local consumption advisories matter, especially for bigger fish from tropical reefs.
钓法备注
Fish light tackle with small hooks and fluorocarbon leaders; chum can pull schools close and keep them near the boat. Free-line baits back in the current, drift a bait along reef edges, or target school fish around patch reefs and wrecks.
