Silver Trevally

Pseudocaranx georgianus

Silver trevally is a schooling carangid found mostly in temperate coastal waters, bays, reefs, and around jetties and wrecks. It feeds on small fish, squid, crustaceans, and worms, and is a popular light-tackle target where it is common.

识别要点

  • Silvery, laterally compressed body with a dark spot on the gill cover
  • Strongly forked yellowish tail and sickle-shaped pectoral fins
  • Small mouth with a steep forehead and a series of scutes on the straight part of the lateral line

栖息地

Temperate coastal waters, estuaries, bays, surf zones, reefs, jetties, harbors, and offshore wrecks; often around current lines and structure in midwater and near the bottom.

饵料备注

Effective baits include squid strips, pilchards, prawns, sandworms, and small cut baits. Small metal slugs, soft plastics, and small vibration lures also work well when fish are chasing bait.

行为

A fast, schooling predator that moves through bait schools and works tidal flow, often feeding at dawn, dusk, and on moving water. It will pick up small prey near structure and may school tightly over sand, rock, or reef edges.

注意事项

Heavy metal contamination can be an issue in some urban or industrial estuaries; check local advisories and size/bag regulations before keeping fish.

钓法备注

Fish light to medium tackle and present baits or lures on or just above the bottom near current, drop-offs, wharves, and wrecks. A steady retrieve with pauses, or a slow lift-and-drop, often triggers bites; use enough leader strength to handle abrupt runs.
